Forward
January has always been a time for resolutions. Our
resolutions for 2010: Dr. Neuls is in training and
determined to complete the A1A half marathon on February
21st; Sara is focused on spending more quality time with her
children; Kathy wants to maintain her fitness goals; and
Amanda wants to continue as a personal trainer and get new
clients for this year. We know that with hard work and
determination we can accomplish our goals and hope that all
of you who made resolutions will keep them as well, no

Holidays!
Our staff got the chance to take a team-building
motivational cruise aboard the Carnival Imagination this
past November. We learned a lot in our seminars and
reconnected with each other. These trips are great to
rejuvenate and keep us motivated. We love the closeness that
we share with each other, as well as with our patients. We believe
this is what makes us successful. May we always continue to
move forward and never backward!

Dr. Neuls was recently named the Northeast Area Director
for the Broward County Dental Association. Her main duty
will be as the mediation liaison for the Broward County

determine whether everything was handled properly. This
practice is put into place to ensure that both the patient
and the dentist are treated correctly and fairly. Dr. Neuls

06-01-09 Newsletter: Solutions
for Snoring & Botox Event
Our office is introducing a new product for those patients
who suffer from
Obstructive
Sleep Apnea (OSA). We are partnering with Dr. Michael
Williams and Somnomed to provide comfortable, easy to wear
appliances that are specially designed to improve the
airway. The appliance is called the SomnoDent, which is a
mandibular advancement splint that treats mild, moderate and
severe OSA by moving the lower jaw slightly forward. This
position tightens the soft tissues and muscles of the upper
airway. The Somnodent prevents the tissue obstruction and

Dr. Neuls has been recently accepted as an examiner
for the North East Regional Board of Dentistry. She will

function is to grade the examinees' performances to ensure
quality hygienists are serving our community. Dr. Neuls'

Botox Party
This Halloween, scare the wrinkles away .... come join us for
our Halloween Botox Party on Friday, October 31st. Most
doctors charge anywhere from $15 to $16 per unit; Dr.
Neuls will be offering Botox for $10 per unit. Now
that's a scary savings!
We will be having two events, one for women and one for
men. The women 's event will be held in between 9:00 AM and
12:00 PM. We will be serving complimentary coffee and
pastries. The men's event will be held between 1:00 and 4:00

Receives Prestigious Fellowship
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Julia Neuls, of Fort
Lauderdale, Florida, received the prestigious Fellowship
Award during the Academy of General Dentistry's
Convocation ceremony, a commencement celebration that
recognizes AGD members' commitment to excellence in dental
education. The commencement was held at the AGD's Annual
Meeting & Exhibits on July 19, 2008 in Orlando. Dr. Neuls
accepted this award along with more than 240 other
recipients.
The Fellowship Award is presented to dentists looking to
provide the highest quality of dental care by remaining
current in their profession. In order to receive this award,
Dr. Neuls was required to complete 500 hours of continuing
membership with the AGD and a 400 question exam. More than
786,000 personnel are employed directly in the field of
dentistry, and only 7 percent of dentists have attained
their fellowship. The Fellowship Award symbolizes excellence
in the dental profession and a commitment to providing
exceptional patient care.

profession and commitment to ensuring her patients receive
excellent oral health care," says AGD President, Paula
Jones, DDS, AGD.
Dr. Neuls chooses to continue educating herself on the

July
In June, the entire team got together for our annual summer
staff appreciation BBQ at Dr. Neuls' house. We all had a
great time swimming, enjoying hot dogs and hamburgers, but
not the mosquitoes. Dr. Neuls got a slip and slide for the
kids that had a huge shark head at the end. The kids had a
blast sliding on the water slide.
Let us give you a dazzling smile! We've all admired
people with perfect sparkling smiles. These days people are
doing more then simply admiring those pearly whites -
they're going to the dentist to get their own! If you are
considering getting your smile in shape, you should know
that the new advancements in metal-free cosmetic
dentistry offer many safe, affordable choices for both your
front and back teeth. With new materials like zirconia
and stronger resin materials, a metal free smile can not
only be beautiful but extremely strong and durable.
Composite fillings, or tooth-colored fillings,
provide good durability and resistance to fracture in
small-to-mid size restorations that need to withstand
moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is removed
when the dentist prepares the tooth, and this may result in
a smaller filling than that of an amalgam. Composites can
also be "bonded" or adhesively held in a cavity, often
allowing the dentist to make a more conservative repair to
the tooth. Composite is a far superior restoration then
amalgam in strength and cosmetics.
Onlays, which were once made from unsightly metal
or gold, can now be cosmetically pleasing with advanced and
stronger porcelain. New materials like Bellglass have a
beautiful translucent look that mimics natural tooth color
and light reflection almost perfectly. Next to a natural
tooth, it is nearly impossible to distinguish which tooth is
man made.
Crowns, which were once made from gold, metal, or
porcelain fused to metal, can now be completely made of
porcelain and retain the same strength of metal or metal
fused crowns. Lava and Wolceram all-porcelain materials are
as strong as porcelain fused to metal crowns, which make
them ideal for back teeth as well as front. Porcelain fused
to metal crowns show a gray line around the gum line over
time. All-porcelain crowns mimic natural tooth structure and
never stain or turn gray at the gum line. All-porcelain is
the best choice for a beautiful, natural smile.

In an effort to conserve energy and cut back on wasted
paper and plastics, our office is going chartless
(paperless). We have already started using digital
x-rays, which reduces your radiation exposure by about 85%.
The exposure you receive from a full set of x-rays is
roughly equivalent to 2-3 minutes in the sun. Not only is
your radiation exposure greatly reduced, but we no longer
need to use toxic chemicals to develop the x-rays, not to
mention no longer needing plastic film. It's a "win win" for
the patient and our landfills. Over the next year, we will
be asking our patients to update their medical histories,
and review the HIPPA privacy acts and office policies.
Instead of signing the actual forms, you will need to sign
in an electronic box. All your forms will be saved in our
database instead of on a paper chart. In our effort to go
chartless, we have purchased new office management software.
We are now able to keep more detailed information about your
dental care and store digital photos and x-rays within your
new digital paper free chart. It's excellent care and better
for the environment.
Our office is thrilled to have the DIAGNOdent in our
practice. The DIAGNOdent laser caries detection aid
removes the doubt from treatment decisions regarding hidden
caries or questionable stained grooves. The device's ability
to see into pits and grooves enables Dr. Neuls to treat
sub-surface decay with confidence. This laser device gives
us the technology to treat decay unable to be seen or that
is questionable in x-rays. The device uses a laser to detect
and measure decay. It then gives a numeric reading that
tells Dr. Neuls or the hygienist the extent of the damage.
This enables decay to be treated with the least invasive and
most cost-effective treatment, rather then watching the
decayed area and needing more costly and invasive treatment
down the road.
