One of the most important ways to prepare for a root canal is to take time off from work or school. General dentists recommend this tip because it ensures that the patient can rest and heal after the procedure is complete. Root canals are not terribly invasive, but they do cause a wound that will need time and care to heal properly. Taking a few days off from school, work or other physical activities is a great idea! It is better to be safe than sorry. 

2. Ask for help

Another tip that general dentists recommend is that the patient asks for help, whether that be from a family member or friend. After the root canal procedure is complete, the patient may be groggy from the anesthesia. While the patient may be able to drive themselves home, it is better to have someone to help, just to be safe. 

It can also be helpful to have someone around to help once the patient is home. Keeping the wound clean is important, but it can be difficult for the patient to do on their own. 

3. Get the appropriate food

It is important to adapt to a softer food or a liquid diet immediately after a root canal procedure. This will allow the open wound to heal properly and without any pain or irritation.

  • Yogurt
  • Eggs
  • Soft pasta
  • Smoothies

It is also recommended to consume fruits and vegetables. They contain nutrients that aid the body in the healing process. 

4. Rest

Resting after a root canal procedure is one of the most important ways to heal and get better. General dentists insist that their patients rest during the recovery period. While recovery should not take more than a couple of days, it is important to relax and rest during this time.
