The Answer to “How Long Do Veneers Last?”

How Long do Veneers Last? When asked how long do veneers last? we have a number of ways of answering that question. From a purely simplistic point of view, the answer is that veneers should last you at least 10 years and probably much more. This is, however, an excellent question, because anytime you are having a procedure done that places something permanently in your mouth, you should ask questions like how long do veneers last? To answer the question of how long do veneers last in more detail, we can turn to a few of the studies that have been conducted on this very issue. A recent study showed that 96 percent of people who received dental veneers found that the veneers lasted for a minimum of five to six years. This group overlapped the next group, who at 93 percent found that their dental veneers lasted between 10 and 11 years. Both groups overlapped the third group, whose dental veneers lasted 12 to 13 years. This third group consisted of 91 percent of the people studied. There was a substantial drop in people whose veneers lasted more than 13 years, and the study found that 71 percent of the participants' veneers lasted for 15 to 16 years. A second study was also conducted that looked more specifically at the rates with which veneers failed in order to answer the longevity question. By examining 50 published articles, the study determined that only 5 percent of veneers failed in under five years, and less than 10 percent failed in a 10-year period. Whenever there is something like veneers that is so connected to the functions of human existence, like chewing, there are numerous other factors that go into determining how long it can last.

Answering the question how long do veneers last? entails more than knowing just how long they can last. Because of the ongoing interaction between the mouth and veneers and the fact that you have to use them every day, there are other factors that come into play. For example, studies have found that the most common reason for veneers to fail is because of a fracture to the dental veneers themselves. This would involve trauma or a great deal of force being put on the placement that causes it to fracture, much like you could fracture a bone. Forty-five percent of failed dental veneers were because of fractures while an additional 28 percent were discarded because they were cracked. This shows a very clear relationship between how you choose to use your teeth and the longevity of the dental veneers. It is important to know this when you are asking the question, how long do veneers last, since how long they last is greatly influenced by how you treat them.

Another area where you can negatively or positive influence the performance of dental veneers and their longevity is in the area of oral hygiene. We have found that there are a high number of cases of failed dental veneers among people who do not take proper care of their oral hygiene.
